Russell Wilson Began His $185 Million Football Journey by Defeating a QB Half a Foot Taller Than Him

Russell Wilson is one of the football community’s most established and recognizable faces today. Bar his last season with the Broncos, his performance has made him one of the best QBs in the league. Like other successful athletes, Wilson’s journey started at a very young age. In his case, it all started from competing against a much larger, older QB back in high school.

Wilson’s journey has been a remarkable one, and one that is continually inspiring young QBs. Wilson has, more often than not, defied the odds, especially given his rather short stature. However, even though he is on the shorter side for an NFL QB, he has more than made up for it with his awareness in the pocket, and his howitzer of a right arm.

According to his mother, Russell Wilson began behaving as a leader as early as fourth grade. Apparently, he liked to be the one directing others while playing, something his teachers were not quite fond of. Naturally, this carried on to his high school days, where he used his athletic skills to barter with smarter kids in order to excel at his studies.

Eventually, when the time came to face off against another QB for the starting position in his high school, his talent did not fail him. Though he was shorter than the other QB and younger as well. Wilson’s mother credits his never give up attitude to his older brother, Harry, who would never let Wilson have it easy while playing together.

Wilson had another face-off in the NFL akin to the one he had in high school

Life in the NFL wasn’t easy for him either. For starters, in 2012, he was taken on a trip down memory lane, when he had to fight for the starting QB position in the Seahawks roster, that too as a rookie. What’s more, he was facing off against Matt Flynn, who was definitely better than an 11th-grader. Fortunately for him, Wilson came out on top, and that kickstarted his illustrious career in the NFL.

Wilson is currently playing for Denver in what is one of the most expensive contracts in NFL history. However, the Broncos fans are not happy, specifically because he did not turn out to be the savior they had hoped he would be. However, this season, things could change, with the arrival of Sean Payton as head coach. Will Russell’s performance increase? Or is it just wishful thinking?
