Watch: Cody Rhodes and CM Punk Once Sang a Hilarious Rendition of a Taylor Swift Song Ahead of WrestleMania 29

Taylor Swift might have never made an appearance on WWE but, WWE stars once paid tribute to her by singing one of her songs. The pop star is widely recognized for producing pop, country, folk, and rock songs. The 12-time Grammy winner has a large fan following across the globe. In fact, Taylor Swift once had the WWE roster singing her song, “22”, including CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. 

While Cody Rhodes and CM Punk were once in AEW at the same time, they never had a match. However, the duo faced each other multiple times in WWE during the late 2000s. Nevertheless, both wrestlers are good friends in real life. Rhodes and Punk also have a few things in common. Both are talented wrestlers and terrible singers.

Ahead of WrestleMania 29, WWE superstars paid tribute to Taylor Swift by singing her then-released song, 22. Aside from CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, other wrestlers such as Brodus Clay, Kaitlyn, Dolph Ziggler, Hornswoggle, and more joined in and sang the song. However, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk stood out with their performance. And it was quite what anybody would expect, far from soulful and dissonant. 

While Cody Rhodes tried to add a little soul, CM Punk almost turned the song into a wrestling promo. At WrestleMania 29, CM Punk made great efforts at breaking The Undertaker’s streak, but eventually failed.

As for Cody Rhodes, The Debonaire Rhodes was slated to team up with Damien Sandow and the Bellas against The Funkadactyls and Tensai. However, their match was later nixed by the promotion. 

Cody Rhodes comments on CM Punk’s backstage brawl incident

In an interview with MMA Hour, Cody Rhodes expressed his disappointment at AEW’s All Out backstage brawl incident. After the infamous slugfest, CM Punk has been besmirched.

While Rhodes hated to learn about the incident, he did not speak ill about CM Punk. According to him, he was “bummed out”, as the entire thing was detrimental to AEW’s reputation. 

“I just hated seeing that. Because as the company grows, and I hope it continues to grow, I hope people remember the mission in the first place. Why we were there. And if you bring in people who don’t know the mission, then things like that can happen.”

“I’m not saying he didn’t know the mission or anything of that nature, but I was just bummed out.”
