Does AEW Superstar CM Punk, Who Has Bad Blood with Triple H, Want to Join WWE under Him?
CM Punk was recently rumored to be on his way back to AEW, months after his All Out backstage brawl with The Elite. However, it appears that there may be a twist in the tale with the former AEW Champion recently appearing backstage on the recent episode of Monday Night RAW. He is said to have met several WWE superstars, including Triple H and The Miz.
Interestingly, he shares an acrimonious relationship with both of them, more so, in fact, with the man running the show currently.
To add to the drama, his unexpected appearance before the show began last night has led to many wondering if the star who once walked out of the promotion wants to make a return.
Does CM Punk want to join WWE and work alongside Triple H?
CM Punk and Triple H had a brief meeting, before he left the arena. While there is still no clarity regarding what exactly the two discussed, Dave Meltzer revealed that the feeling within the WWE was that the now AEW star wants to return to the WWE after 9 long years.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer said:
“The feeling in WWE was that he was there because he wanted back. Obviously, there were talks of him going back, whatever it was, late last year. But he couldn’t go because he was still under contract.
And my impression is this was with Paul Levesque in charge and not Vince, and my impression was they didn’t have any interest in him at that time.”
Interestingly, there are contrasting reports regarding how CM Punk was received upon his unexpected appearance.
PW Insider, claimed that the former WWE Champion was greeted warmly by the talent, most of whom haven’t seen him since he walked out of the WWE in 2014. Conversely, Ringside News, are reporting that “No one cared about Punk being there.”
The promotion was doing fine as is without CM Punk, and the belief within seems to be one of apathy towards him potentially returning to the WWE.
CM Punk buries the hatchet with The Miz
CM Punk’s desire to headline a WrestleMania is well known. The voice of the voiceless, however, never got to close out the Showcase of the immortals. It hurt him even more that The Miz received the accolade before him when the A-Lister successfully defended the WWE Championship against John Cena at WrestleMania 27.
In 2013, the WWE released a DVD about CM Punk titled the Best in the World. The Miz appeared on it and praised Punk non-stop. However, Punk mercilessly buried his former friend and appeared disgusted that The Miz was a WrestleMania headliner and he was not.
The Miz retaliated years later when he reenacted CM Punk’s UFC loss to Mickey Gall during a match with Dolph Ziggler. Although, it was more than likely Vince McMahon’s decision than his own.
The Miz later expressed his support to CM Punk before his second and final UFC match. However, Punk took yet another shot at the Miz, after the A-lister joked about not changing the culture like Punk did. An angered Punk went off on the Miz on Twitter, asking him to “suck a blood covered di*k.”
The Miz has said on several occasions that he harbors no ill will against his former friend, and even expressed confusion regarding why Punk hated him so much.
Regardless, during his recent appearance backstage, The Miz and Punk spoke for a short period of time and “cleared the air.”
The recent developments are interesting, but we will have to wait and see what this means for the star who is currently signed with the AEW.
