“You Can Win From Any Situation”: MS Dhoni’s Golden Advice for Shubman Gill
Indian batter Shubman Gill is one of the brightest stars in Indian cricket. After making his debut in 2020 in an ODI against New Zealand, Gill has just kept on growing. Talking to The Indian Express, Gill had once revealed what he learned from former India captain MS Dhoni and all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Gill said that both Dhoni and Yuvraj have played a big role in shaping him up as a cricketer. Dhoni advised Gill to just focus on his game and keep working hard in order to achieve the bigger things. The wicket-keeper advised Gill that he can win games from any situation if he believes in his quality. Gill’s ODI cap was given to him by Dhoni only.
Gill had mentioned several times how Dhoni came to him after he could not make a good score on his ODI debut. Dhoni was not playing that game but he came to Gill and consoled him by saying that his debut was definitely better than him. For those unknown, Dhoni got run out without scoring a run on his ODI debut.
MS Dhoni’s Golden Advice for Shubman Gill
Gill has not played much with Dhoni in international cricket, but he said that the influence has been great on his career. The way Gill has been playing recently certainly proves that he has not just listened to the advises but has worked on them as well. Dhoni was himself one of the best finishers in the game and won games for India from very difficult scenarios.
“I haven’t interacted much with Mahi bhai but one thing I have learnt from him is that you can win from any situation, you just have to believe in yourself. Just believe in practice, just believe in the hard work, just don’t give it away,” Gill had told The Indian Express.
Apart from Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh has been instrumental in Gill’s career. Singh used to mentor Gill when both of them played for Punjab in the domestic circuit. The all-rounder asked Gill to trust his own game. The bond between both of them has been great as well and Singh has consistently praised Gill on his achievements.
Shubman Gill is The Fifth Indian Batter To Score Centuries in All Formats
Gill scored a T20I century against New Zealand earlier this year, and he became just the fifth Indian player to score centuries in all three formats of the game. Only Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, KL Sharma and Virat Kohli achieved that milestone before.
The opener has so far scored seven centuries in this career (4 ODIs, 2 Tests and 1 T20I). In IPL 2023, he has scored a couple of centuries as well.
