“Cringe, Lame”: Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs Hitting the Grizzlies’ Tunnel Dance During White House Visit Ignites Troll Fest on Twitter
Grand entrances are part and parcel of the sporting world. Whether it be a championship game or just another home game, teams often go the extra mile to ensure that their entry is spectacular. However, it is a rare sight to see a team make a unique entry when they are at the most important place in the country: the White House. That is exactly what Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs did during their trip to Washington.
The tradition of inviting Super Bowl winners to the White House is long-standing. The Pittsburgh Steelers were the first to be invited by President Carter back in 1980. They were not the first ever team to be invited, though. That honor goes to the NBA’s Boston Celtics, who were invited in 1963. Though the Chiefs’ entry this year stands well apart from all the other visits before them.
Patrick Mahomes & the Chiefs grace White House visit with Grizzlies dance
The last time the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, they could not visit the White House because of the pandemic. This is probably why they thought they need to have as much fun as they can while they are still there. A bunch of Mahomes’ teammates decided the best way to do this was to break into the Grizzlies’ tunnel dance, right as they entered the White House. Though not everyone is happy about their antics. “Cringe, Lame,” wrote some of the fans who didn’t think the White House was the place to execute a dance like that.

The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the most iconic teams in the NBA. Especially because of their pre-game and on-court dance routines. The players regularly come up with something new to hype themselves up, and sometimes even the locals chime in, such is their energy. Their dance routines have the habit of going viral, including the one that the Chiefs decided to execute during their White House visit.
The Chiefs’ visit to the White House was a spectacular affair. The Marine band even played ‘Start Me Up’, a song that the Chiefs’ Kingdom unofficially adopted for their team. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce even presented President Biden with a custom Chiefs’ uniform, with the number 46, since he is the 46th President of the USA.
Travis Kelce had to stop himself from going treasure hunting in the White House
During a recent episode of ‘The New Heights’ podcast, Travis Kelce revealed his dreams of emulating his hero, Nicholas Cage, from National Treasure Hunt. That too, inside the White House, where he hoped to find some treasure. It seems he was particularly inspired by Cage rummaging through the Declaration of Independence to search for the next clues. Naturally, his brother Jason Kelce dissuaded him.
Travis also added that he might consider trying to get into the White House with a fake ID. The President’s residence/office is one of the most heavily protected places in the country. For Travis to even consider attempting to circumvent the security measures was hilarious. To which Jason replied that his plan was now invalid, as everyone knows about it.
That did not stop him from trying to have fun during the ceremony. Right after he and Mahomes presented President Biden with the jersey, Kelce tried to speak from the podium bearing the President’s Seal. He was only able to get a couple of words out, though, as Mahomes immediately rushed and pulled him away, sparking a round of laughter from those watching. Better than going treasure hunting, maybe?
