Five Years Before Signing $230,000,000 Deal, Deshaun Watson Donated His Entire First Paycheck to Hurricane Harvey Victims
Deshaun Watson has emerged as one of the most controversial entities in the world of football in the last couple of years. The Browns quarterback, who was given a mammoth $230,000,000, 5-year deal last year, has been facing intense backlash for quite a while now, due to all the s*xual misconduct allegations levied against him. However, five years before moving to Cleveland, Watson was getting all the praise in the world from NFL fans.
Deshaun, who was named the 2015 ACC Player of The Year, came into the NFL with a massive reputation. He was roped in by the Houston Texans in 2017 as the 12th overall pick and even before playing his first game at the highest level, he had started giving back to the community which had earned him a lot of praise online.
Deshaun Watson helped three cafeteria workers get back on their feet
While most rookies end up spending their first paychecks on extravagant stuff, Deshaun had donated his entire first NFL cheque to three women who had lost everything because of Hurricane Harvey. All three women, who used to work at the NRG stadium’s cafeteria, received a $27,000 cheque (in total) which aided them massively in their quest to rebuild what that they had lost due to the horrendous Hurricane.
“For what you all do for us every day and never complain, I really appreciate you all, so I wanted to give my first game check to y’all to help y’all out in some type of way. Here you guys go,” Watson had claimed while giving the cheque to the women, as per independent.co.uk.
As one can imagine, overwhelmed by emotions, one of the women had started crying while hugging Deshaun. Hurricane Harvey wreaked havoc across the States back in 2017. As per the Texastribune, over 88 people had lost their lives due to the unavoidable disaster. However, some reports even claim that the death toll was over 100.

Amidst all the hullaballoo which was going on in Texas at that time, Watson’s gesture surely came in handy for Denisse Benavides, Isabel Sanchez and Maria Rincon. “Hopefully that’s good and that can get you back on your feet. And anything else y’all need, I’m always here to help,” Deshaun had further said to the three women after handing over the cheque.
Cleveland Browns are yet to gain any positives from Watson, after giving him a $230 Million deal
While Deshaun might have gained a lot of appreciation for what he did with his first game cheque, things didn’t really pan out well for him after that. Although his on-field performances were good, all hell broke loose when he was traded to the Cleveland Browns who offered him a $230 Million, 5-year deal.
Fans weren’t happy with the Browns for giving such a massive contract to Watson as he was in the midst of s*xual harassment cases. Moreover, Deshaun was then handed a 11-game suspension by the league. All this massively affected Browns’ image in a negative way and to make matters worse, even after his return, Deshaun looked out of sorts last season.
While the Browns have reportedly restructured Deshaun’s contract this year to free up $36 Million in cap space, there is no doubt that they’ll still have high hopes from him as his presence in Denver is still costing them a lot.
