Shaquille O’Neal is a father to his six children, whom he has raised to choose their own path of glory just like himself. The youngest of the Diesel clan is the 17-year-old Me’Arah O’Neal, who was born to his ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal. Me’Arah is ranked 35th among women high-school basketball athletes and is an incoming 4-star recruit in the 2024 class of college athletes. The immense pressure of college scouts’ presence, looking for recruitment, does not seem to deter the young O’Neal’s spirits. In an interview with Kentucky Sports, Me’Arah claimed her father and brother’s influence was crucial in building her ability to handle pressure.

As an incoming college recruit, Me’Arah already has several offers from reputed colleges such as Kentucky, Alabama, Arizona State, Baylor, California, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Virginia. Recently, she visited her father’s alma mater LSU and posted about it on her TikTok platform. Wherever Me’Arah chooses to continue as a college athlete, she would definitely shine and make a good name for herself.

Last weekend, Shaquille O’Neal was seen attending his daughter Me’Arah’s Nike EYBL game and supporting her from the sidelines. Ahead of the game, he was seen giving his daughter a warm hug as she stepped on the court. Shaq wholeheartedly supported his daughter at around the same time when LeBron James and Rajon Rondo were coaching Bryce James at Peach Jam.

The Nike Nationals this year seemed quite packed with several imminent personalities and college scouts present for recruitment. These college coaches were eager to catch a glimpse of Me’Arah O’Neal and her CyFair Elite teammates performing in the game. Alongside Me’Arah, there are several other touted prospects, such as the No. 6 prospect in the 2024 class Justice Carlton, looking forward to a lasting impression in front of these coaches.

Despite the presence of several high-profile personalities and college scouts, Me’Arah did not seem intimidated by the pressure whatsoever. In fact, she has learned to embrace the same, all thanks to Shaq’s good, old wise words. Speaking at an interview post-game, she reiterated her dad’s wisdom to the media.

Me’Arah is yet to make a decision on her college as she has several offers from campuses such as LSU, Arizona State, Kentucky State, and Georgia Tech. Speaking about choosing her college, Me’Arah is looking for one where she can make strong relationships. She said,

“I’m definitely big on relationships. So whichever school is invested and where I’ll have a successful career is definitely where I will end up.” 

Noting the young O’Neal’s discipline and ethics, it seems like she is definitely following a similar pathway to her father. For Shaq, Me’Arah was always a prodigy in basketball and he expects his daughter to become the greatest woman basketballer whenever she starts playing professionally.

Me’Arah O’Neal proved herself to be a basketball prodigy, even at the age of 13. Shaq has definitely passed on some of his unique talents and basketball genes, which are now carried forward by his progenies. In a video shared by Shaq’s son Shareef O’Neal, he reminded the world of his sister’s basketball talents, with Me’Arah being able to dunk at the age of 13.

Me’Arah definitely has the potential to carry forward the O’Neal family’s legacy in the field of basketball. While her brother Shareef is turning heads with his performances in NBA G-League Ignite, Me’Arah is expected to become an even greater talent than him, or perhaps, her father Shaquille O’Neal. When Jimmy Fallon once asked Shaq about playing 1-on-1 against his daughter, he modestly replied he would rather not face and beat his daughter in basketball.
