Marcus Mariota’s First Big Purchase Cost Him a Million Dollars In Rookie Money
Marcus Mariota recently signed a single-year deal with the Super Bowl contenders Philadelphia Eagles worth $5 million. Although his contract may not sound that remarkable against Jalen Hurts’ market-setting deal, but he certainly had his fair share of fun early in his rookie days.
Mariota was considered the next big thing in the NFL when he was roped in by the Tennessee Titans as a second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 2014 Heisman Trophy winner left no stone unturned by immediately making his presence felt in the league.
He undeniably impressed everyone with his flashy entrance as an NFL rookie by buying a swanky penthouse in Nashville’s Gulch Condominiums. The big purchase came within 20 days of him signing his $24 million worth rookie contract.
Marcus Mariota’s Lavish Purchase in Nashville
Marcus Mariota was surely a new obsession for all football fans in 2015 and for a very good reason. Not only was he a beast with the football but his power move with a flamboyant new purchase turned a lot of heads. His lavish 1,890 sq ft penthouse in Nashville cost him a staggering $1.05 million.

Although the penthouse cost him a substantial chunk of his $24.2 million guaranteed contract, the features of the house undermined the price he paid for it. Located in Nashville’s Gulch Condominiums, the high-rise penthouse came with floor-to-ceiling windows. The bedrooms in the house featured 15-foot ceilings, modern concrete accents, and a custom floor plan, enough to accommodate NFL’s then-newly minted king.
The zebra-striped tiles in the bathrooms scream with a fanciful play that sets them apart from the rest of the house which is rather serious and clean. The penthouse was most certainly a dream purchase for the quarterback from the University of Oregon. However, Mariota took just two years to move out of his luxury penthouse to settle for a practical home in Nashville.
Mariota Settled For a Practical Home In Nashville
Although the luxury penthouse was a purchase that could make anyone jealous, but the young QB took two years to realize that he needed a practical place to stay in Nashville.
According to Realtor.com, Mariota purchased a newly built sleek modern home in Nashville in 2017 for $745,000 before selling off his penthouse for a profit of just over $300,000.
This new home turned out to be a more practical purchase since it had four bedrooms instead of the two in his previous Nashville home. However, he sold the house three years later after he was signed by the Raiders in 2020.
