“Not Only Talking About Tennis”: When Jannik Sinner Revealed Why He Liked Having British Singing Legend Seal Around at US Open 2023
Legendary British singer Seal turned heads at the US Open 2023 as he cheered on Jannik Sinner during the Italian’s Round of 32 match against Stan Wawrinka. A well-known tennis enthusiast, the acclaimed singer-songwriter-producer made a predictable appearance courtside — but what caught everyone off guard was where he sat: in Sinner’s personal box.
Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel, better known as Seal, is a British artist who has won millions of admirers with his melodic voice and soothing singing style. The singer has won multiple Grammy awards and brings a legendary aura and calming presence with him.
Seal’s presence in Sinner’s corner naturally surprised many. The Italian was asked about the singer during his post match conference. Sinner was quick to respond, shedding light on their friendship and how it developed over the years.
In his press conference, Sinner said that he enjoyed Seal’s presence as he a “very nice guy” to be around. He further added that it was nice to share a different interest with Seal and not necessarily just talk about tennis.
“I think I meet him two years now, I don’t know him, and first time we met was here. We talked a little bit. He’s obviously an incredible singer, but most importantly is a very, very nice man to be around.
“You know, he talked to me that he’s gonna make the European tour and everything, and then it’s nice, you know, to share a little bit different, yeah, different moments, no? Not only talking about tennis. So it’s always nice.”
Seal, with a net worth estimated to be around $40 million, made his appearance at the US Open 2023 memorable. At the US Open 2024, Sinner is now the top seed and has come in as the World No.1 and a Grand Slam champion.
Sinner played Tommy Paul in a blockbuster Round of 16 match. Fans will be watching to see if Seal makes another appearance at Flushing Meadows this year to support his young Italian friend.
