UFC Legend Cites Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov to Outline How Francis Ngannou vs. Jon Jones Might Play Out
Francis Ngannou is now one of the hottest athletes in all of MMA and boxing. ‘The Predator’ went toe-to-toe against the best heavyweight boxer of his generation in his boxing debut. After the fight, everyone is now eagerly waiting to see what will be the next move for ‘The Predator‘. While there are multiple names being thrown in the air, for MMA fans, there is only one name that they want to see Ngannou fight, Jon Jones.
In a recent video released on his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen shared his thoughts on a potential fight between Jones and Ngannou. He went on to add that given Francis’ recent performance most fans would believe that he can knockout Jon Jones also. However, he used the example of Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov to express why that might not be the case necessarily. Sonnen said,
“Why do you think Francis [Ngannou] could knock out Jon Jones? Why would you think that? Because you follow the sport. Because Francis is so much bigger, is that why?. When Conor McGregor went in there after going 30 minutes with Floyd, you all thought he was a dangerous striker too didn’t you? And then Khabib who was not a striker, outstruck him and put him on his a**. Now, one does not have to be the other.” (4:34 to 5:05)
Sonnen explained how size and knockout punching power might not give advantage to Ngannou to put down Jon Jones. While giving his thoughts he mentioned how McGregor being a dangerous striker was outclassed by Nurmagomedov.
With that being said, is there really a possibility that Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones takes place?
Jon Jones vs Francis Ngannou will set UFC records in PPV sales
‘The Predator’ achieved a life-long dream by entering a boxing ring and securing his first professional boxing match on 28 October. Now that it is done, he looks to make his next move and strike the iron while it is hot. All indications suggest that his next move will be another boxing fight. At this point in time, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are front runners.
Given that Jones is out for 9 months due to injury, it would make all the sense in the world for Ngannou to accept a fight against Wilder or Joshua. If he wins that, a potential fight against Jones will be gargantuan. If he loses, he will have achieved a life-long dream and made millions in doing so.

For a fight against Jones to happen, it all lies in the hands of Dana White. PFL founder Donn Davis has stated that the only interesting fight right now for Ngannou is Jones. White has many times rejected the idea of a cross promotional fight.
It will be interesting to see how long Dana White holds out and does not give the fans a fight they want so badly.
