Toto Wolff pin points the difference between attitudes of Ferrari and Mercedes

Toto Wolff and Mercedes are gearing up for another season of gruelling racing, one where once again Ferrari could be their major challenger.

Mercedes have brushed aside Ferrari’s challenge in the last few years, but 2018 season was a strong one for Ferrari, one where they managed to dish out a strong enough challenger.

The pace advantage that Ferrari had gradually faded away during the second half of the season, coupled with mistakes from Vettel and the strategy team.

Now, as both F1 giants prepare for yet another fight, Toto Wolff has highlighted the major ‘attitude difference’ between the two setups and how success and failure is treated differently at both teams.

Wolff highlights that ‘winning is a must’ philosophy at Ferrari has probably made things worse for the team, especially at a time when they are not winning.

“Part of our DNA is that we remain modest as we win,” Wolff said as quoted by Formula 1.

“We do not take the win for granted — we do not see it as something that is self-evident or our right.

“We do not go into every weekend with the attitude that winning is a must.

“If there are races in which second is the maximum and we have done our utmost, I have peace with it. I think that is the biggest difference between us and Ferrari,” said Wolff.

While the attitude is one that could lead to years of success, Wolff feels that it puts a  lot of pressure on the team members, and is one that could be done without.
