RCB vs KXIP Man of the Match: Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ for his emphatic innings vs KXIP.

During the 42nd match of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kings XI Punjab by 17 runs to register their fourth IPL 2019 victory.

Chasing a 203-run target, Kings XI remained in the match until losing their way completely in the last three overs. Needing 36 runs in the last three overs with David Miller and Nicholas Pooran in the middle, the visitors must have backed themselves to seal the chase.

Having said that, it was some pinpoint and sensible bowling from Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini which didn’t allow Punjab to score the required amount of runs.

While Yadav conceded just 15 runs in his last two overs, Saini gave a mere three runs in the penultimate overs. Both of them picking a couple of wickets each in the death overs was icing on the cake for the hosts.

Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 11th over, Punjab batsman Nicholas Pooran top-scored for his team scoring 46 (28) with the help of one four and five sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-36-3, Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for Royal Challengers.

After Kings XI captain Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and put the hosts in to bat, Royal Challengers posted 202/4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs on the back of a 121-run partnership between AB de Villiers and Marcus Stoinis.

De Villiers, who came in to bat at No. 3 in the fourth over, ended up scoring a match-winning 82* (44) with the help of three fours and seven sixes to win the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

“I really just try to stay calm. It’s not easy. But you have your team-mates around you to share the load [death-overs batting]. We know our home ground pretty well. It hasn’t been a great hunting ground at the start but if we can keep going with this momentum, we’ll do well,” de Villiers was quoted as saying during the post-match presentation ceremony.
