Travis Hunter Names One Heisman Winner He Would’ve Loved to Team Up With in Their Prime

Travis Hunter would have loved to have Heisman winner Cam Newton play alongside him as a teammate, a name he picked without much hesitation. On his podcast, the Buffs star backed his choice by reminding fans about the huge role Cam had played in his formative years.

“It would be Cam Newton. That’s my coach. He matured me a little bit more. All the main people that was in my life, you know, Cam Newton, came and he took me. You know people were trying to use me and stuff, but he took me off them, put me on his team and took care of me,” elaborated Travis.

Hunter is amongst the most notable alumni of Cam’s C1N program. And this 7v7 initiative, the two-way player admitted, helped him grow as a person.

Hunter revealed that his time at C1N coincided with a period in his life when people were trying to use him for their own benefit. Thankfully, Cam took him under his tutelage and took care of him like a brother.

Cam and Travis share a truly special relationship. That love was evident when Newton made it a point to be present at the Heisman Trophy ceremony, cheering on Hunter.

This is a big deal because Cam had vowed never to attend the award ceremony after his victory in 2010. Back then, Cam’s father, Cecil Newton Sr., was debarred from attending his son’s Heisman ceremony.

It’s because the NCAA found him involved “in a pay-for-play scheme” during the QB’s attempted recruitment to Mississippi State University. Despite all that resentment, Cam made an appearance for the sake of Hunter. That shows how much the Buffs star means to him.

And, fans were not surprised with Hunter picking Cam. They celebrated the bromance between the two while appreciating Hunter for not forgetting his mentor:

There is no doubt that Hunter has been endowed with incredible talent and genetics. However, it’s impossible to overlook the amazing mentors surrounding him. Be it Deion Sanders or Newton, he is truly blessed when it comes to role models.
