England Cricket Team News: David Willey reacts after being omitted from 2019 World Cup squad | English pacer reacted funnily on his omission.

England fast bowler David Willey became the unfortunate candidate to face the axe from England squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. In a bid to accommodate Jofra Archer, English selectors had to drop one cricketer who had played regularly for them in the last couple of years or so.

Having made his debut after a disastrous Cricket World Cup 2015 for England, Willey had played 46 of 88 ODIs played by England since the tournament. Predominantly opened the bowling for his team, Willey picked up 52 wickets at an average of 36.32, an economy rate of 5.75 and a strike rate of 37.9.

Known for making early inroads into the opposition’s batting line-up, Willey being a left-handed bowling option and a capable batsman were the other benefits which he offered to the English side.

Since the start of 2017, Willey dismissed 23 batsmen in 24 matches at an average of 40.34, an economy rate of 5.99 and a strike rate of 40.3. Despite him batting up the order for Yorkshire, the southpaw rarely got a chance to portray his skills with the bat at the highest level.

Much like India batsman Ambati Rayudu and Pakistan bowler Junaid Khan, Willey also took to his Twitter account to express his emotions on the ouster. “What can I say, I’m absolutely gutted. Still 100% behind the lads. On a positive…..still winning at life!!,” read the caption of Willey’s tweet.

It was inevitable that Jofra Archer would be picked by England for the World Cup. It is hard on Willey but Archer offers more. The pressure on him though will be huge given that he has broken into a successful close-knit team.
