In what has come as a big blow to the live-action Netflix adaptation of Assassin’s Creed, its writer has left the show. Jeb Stuart, known for his work in Die Hard, Vikings: Valhalla, and many more is no longer helming the show. The news broke after an interview with Collider about Vikings: Valhalla went live. Here, Stuart discussed the reasons for his departure and shared a few details regarding the show’s future.

Writer and showrunner Jeb Stuart is no longer a part of Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed show
Despite being announced over two years ago, the Assassin’s Creed Netflix series is nowhere near completion. The most recent development sees writer Jeb Stuart step aside for a new showrunner to take over. The move apparently arose due to creative differences over the direction of the series. In an interview with Collider Stuart stated:
“I think it was a little bit of a move of executives from LA to London, and it allowed the London group who, unfortunately, had to inherit my vision of what it was instead of getting to develop their own vision”
Stuart mentioned that there was no bad blood regarding his departure and that the move was ‘fair.’
“So I think that’s fair. I know it’s going to be great whenever it comes out. I think the Ubisoft guys are fantastic. I think it’s a terrific franchise. It was just a good, mutual time to move on for both sides.”
This isn’t the first foray into live-action adaptations for the franchise. The Michael Fassbender movie of the same name released in 2016 to mixed/unfavorable reviews. Hoping to right the ship with a Netflix adaptation, Ubisoft is hoping the new series breathes life into the franchise. In other news, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is 2023’s entry to the franchise with an apparent focus on the series’ roots.
