With the likes of Turan and Gomes expected to leave the Camp Nou, it looks like Mascherano may also join them in the transfer market.

The Argentine has been a loyal servant to Barcelona and played a crucial role in their success over the years. Joining them from Liverpool, Mascherano initially struggled but slowly grew into his new found role as a centre back.

He famously played at the back in Barcelona’s Champions League final victory against Manchester United in 2011.

Originally a defensive midfielder, Mascherano added another Champions League to his kitty when he and Pique provided the solidity at the back for the MSN trio to run riot up front.

With the World Cup around the corner, Mascherano realizes that he needs to get into his best shape and form if he holds any dreams of playing in the starting XI.

One man who is not happy with his potential departure is Lionel Messi. Barcelona’s number 10 is very close to Mascherano and considers him as an elder brother.

Barcelona will need to be careful as they will not want to make their number 10 unhappy. An angry Messi may be more destructive than having an ageing midfielder in the squad.
