BCCI confirms Virat Kohli to get Polly Umrigar Award

BCCI has confirmed that Virat Kohli will get the Polly Umrigar award for the best international cricketer for the seasons 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Indian captain Virat Kohli is at the peak of his cricketing career and obviously awards are following in voluminous numbers. Kohli has been on song, scoring four figure runs in consecutive seasons. He has fared well in all the three formats of the game and has been truly clinical.

After taking over captaincy from MS Dhoni, the skipper has been unflustered and has went about his business in a very professional and consistent manner.

In the women’s category Harmanpreet Kaur will receive the Polly Umrigar award for the best women cricketer for the session 2016-17 where as Smriti Mandhana will receive the same for the season 2017-18.

In the memory of the one of the greatest Indian administrators Jagmohan Dalmia, the BCCI has named four awards in his memory. These will be presented to the highest run scorer and the leading wicket taker in under 16 Vijay Merchant trophy and Junior and senior women cricketer.

Making good use of the revenue on by IPL and through various International fixtures, the BCCI has decided to raise the price money for all the 9 categories by 50000 rupees. Previously, the winners got 1 lakh rupees which has now been raised to 1.5 Lakh rupees.

The CAB also known as the Cricket Association of Bengal has won the best state association award due to its consistent performances in the session 2016-17. The association led by Sourav Ganguly will also be felicitated in the awards.

“I congratulate all the winners of the BCCI Annual Awards. The last two years have been fabulous for Indian Cricket with both the men and women’s teams doing very well. We are proud of their achievements and this is our small way of acknowledging their on-field efforts,” CoA chairman Vinod Rai said congratulating all the winners.
