Virat Kohli the only Indian athlete in Forbes highest-paid list; No woman
The Indian captain is the only Indian athlete to feature in Forbes list of highest-paid athletes.
The Indian star batsman is among the world’s highest paid athletes, according to Forbes latest top-100 compilation. American boxing champion Floyd Mayweather tops the list.
Virat Kohli is the only sportsperson from India to feature in the list. The Indian captain is ranked at 83rd, with earning from cricket amounting to USD 4 million. He makes USD 20 million from brand endorsements, taking his overall earnings to USD 24 million.
Floyd Mayweather, the American star boxer who has topped the list, earns USD 285 million. At second is Argentine and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi, who dethroned Cristiano Ronaldo from the last year’s list. He earns USD 111 millon.
Virat Kohli is ahead of the likes of Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic and Man City forward Sergio Aguero.
The Indian captain is also the only cricketer to feature in the list. Virat was ranked at 89th in the previous year’s Forbes list, with total earnings amounting to USD 22 million.
Kohli, 29, is among the most followed sports stars on Twitter, with more than 25 million followers. Only three active athletes have more followers.
Surprisingly, no women athletes have made their way into the Top-100 list. Last year, Serena Williams was the only female sports star to find a place in the list.
