"Cam Newton might've been done in this league.": Skip Bayless Predicts New England Patriots Will Miss Playoffs in 2021

Earlier this morning, Cam Newton signed a new contract with the Patriots. Skip Bayless of “Undisputed” believes that it was a potentially career-saving deal.

The former league MVP had a tough ask to fill the shoes of the greatest football player in history last offseason when he made the move to New England. Although he showed glimpses of his former self, it was overall an unsuccessful season for Cam and the Patriots.

In all fairness, the Auburn alum was one of the first few players to contract COVID-19, and it clearly threw him off his game. However, in a slightly surprising move, the Patriots will be bringing Cam back for one more season.

The deal is reported to be worth around $14 million, but is incentive heavy. This gives Belichick and the Patriots some flexibility to explore other options at QB.

Skip Bayless: “I like this move for Cam Newton”

On this morning’s “Undisputed”, Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe reacted to the signing. Take a look at the clip below:

Clearly, Bayless is under the impression that this was a lifeline for Newton’s career. “I like this move for Cam Newton, because I’m afraid without it, he might’ve been done in this league.”, he said.

“I don’t know if anybody would see Cam Newton as a backup quarterback. Don’t know if Cam Newton would see himself as a backup-like a clear cut backup with no chance of starting.”

“I just don’t know if that’s Cam Newton.”

While Skip believed that this was a good move for Cam, he feels it was a mistake by the Pats. “The New England Patriots will not make the playoffs next year. So, its not a great move for them.”

“They seem to be stuck in purgatory between Tom Brady and the next ‘question mark’ quarterback.
