WATCH: Mundane Defending From Chelsea Sees Kevin de Bruyne Give City 3-0 Lead: Old problems come to haunt Chelsea once again with Lampard’s tactics selling Chelsea down the river
Run to the ground by City, Chelsea were expected to finally get their heads in order after going two down early into their showdown. However, the club failed to get its basics right yet again with a howler of a bit of defending seeing City race into a 3-0 lead inside the first half.
Winning a freekick, Chelsea for some inexplicable reason decided to only leave Kante behind. And with the midfielder misplacing his pass as he failed to send the loose ball to a Chelsea player, City were given lush open space to run out.
Kevin de Bruyne Goal Against Chelsea
The club was more than willing to comply as the ball fell at Raheem Sterling’s feet who blazed his way past the pitch. Despite Chelsea managing to eventually scramble numbers back towards their goal, it was too late with Sterling getting enough time and space to work his shot at Chelsea’ s goal.
While he was unlucky not to find the net after his shot ended up thudding into the post, Kevin de Bruyne was at hand to thump the rebound into Chelsea’s goal and round up a well worked move for his side.

The horrendous piece of defending from Chelsea perfectly alluded towards Lampard’s lack of knowhow and acumen as a manager. This is not the first time Chelsea have had to pay for over committing bodies during corners with Gabriel Martinelli scoring off a similar mistake in the 2019-20 season.

Lampard’s stubbornness and rigidness to address this basic mistake has once again sold the club down a river. The side made a meal of what should have been a simple bit of defending to allow City to take an unassailable lead inside only the first half.
For the London based club, this match is all about saving face now. Given the manner in which City have dictated proceedings and have run the show, Chelsea could be in for a real battering come the end of the 90 minutes.
