The first match of the imminent 12th season of the Big Bash League will be played between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars in Canberra tonight. One of the 17 venues to host BBL 12 matches, Manuka Oval (one of the home grounds for Sydney Thunder) will be hosting a couple of matches this season.

A grand total of 61 matches encompassing of 12 double-headers will be played across the 54-day tournament. Unlike BBL 11, no triple-header days will be observed this season.
BBL 2022-23 will be etched in history for being the first-ever BBL season to witness the presence of DRS. Each teams will get one unsuccessful review per innings to eliminate umpiring howlers. Click here to read more about other rule changes ahead of Big Bash League 12.

Additionally, it will also be the first-ever instance of BBL facing direct competition from a couple of rival leagues. Both into their inaugural season, it will be interesting to see the reactions of viewers from January onward. In spite of its player pool getting affected due to the same, eight BBL clubs have managed to sign (fully or partially) 156 players (including 30 overseas) for this season.
BBL 2022 Live Telecast Channel in India and Australia
As is the case with international cricket in Australia, Sony Pictures Sports Network will be broadcasting Big Bash League 2022-23 for the Indian audiences. In what has become a usual practice now, Sony are yet to reveal the exact television channel for the season opener. As a result, fans are advised to go through Sony’s Indian portfolio in the afternoon.
As far as a streaming platform for the Indian audiences is concerned, Sony LIV will be live streaming all BBL 12 matches in India. Kayo Sports, meanwhile, will continue to provide the same services in Australia. For the unversed, they are still offering free trials for new users.
While Foxtel will be televising all BBL 2022-23 matches ad-free in Australia, Channel 7 will be doing it with ads but only for 45 matches.
With the Australian international summer being conducted simultaneously and owing to different time zones in Australia, there are over a dozen different start times for this tournament. Therefore, fans are suggested to check the same on a daily basis according to their local time zone.
