IPL auctioneer name 2023: Has Hugh Edmeades conducted IPL auction in the past?

The much-anticipated mini auction ahead of IPL 2023 will commence from 02:30 pm (IST) onwards on Friday, in the south Indian city of Kochi.

Some big overseas names in Ben Stokes, Cameron Green, Sam Curran, Harry Brook et al, might invite some of the most intense bids at the auction table tomorrow, as the ten franchises look to rope in the best possible replacements to the ones they had released from their squad ahead of the imminent season.

Needless to say, this one-day event might yet again turn out to be the one to remember for a few upcoming stars of the game as well.

There might be some intense bidding for the overseas stars of the game, especially after a recent report on Thursday confirmed on the availability of all the players, barring those from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh for the entire duration of the tournament.

IPL auctioneer name 2023

The veteran auctioneer, the man who has successfully conducted around 2,700 auction across the world, Hugh Edmeades, will yet again take centre stage as the auctioneer for the IPL mini auction 2023.

Edmeades, who was also the auctioneer during the mega auction ahead of IPL 2022, had grabbed the headlines for a very unfortunate reason. The 62-year-old had suddenly collapsed on the floor while auctioneering the bid for Sri Lankan allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga.

In what was later reported as a case of postural hypotension which caused the fall, Edmeadus could not continue with the auction process, and was replaced with the experienced broadcaster Charu Sharma.

Has Hugh Edmeades conducted IPL auction in the past?

The veteran auctioneer, Hugh Edmeadus, will be conducting his fifth IPL auction tomorrow. He had replaced the ever-popular Richard Madley in the year 2018, until when the latter had taken over the auction proceedings since the inception of the league in 2008.

A Cricket fan himself, Edmeadus claims to follow the IPL action regularly, and believes his role is that of a referee or the umpire as he is supposed to not show any emotions while calling the bids as franchises battle for a player.
