Josh Hazlewood catch vs England: Watch Australian pacer grabs stunner off own bowling to dismiss Jason Roy
Josh Hazlewood catch: The Australian fast bowler made early inroads into the English batting lineup at the Old Trafford.
During the first ODI of the ongoing Australia’s tour of England in Manchester, Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood put on display his first-rate reflexes to make early inroads into the English batting lineup.
Opening the bowling with Mitchell Starc, it was on the penultimate delivery of the fourth over when Hazlewood dismissed England opening batsman Jason Roy (3) to give the hosts a jolt in a 295-run chase.
Coming on the back of scores of 24, 0 and 1 against Ireland, Roy registered another single-digit score after his mis-timed aerial drive off Hazlewood was snaffled by the bowler to become a source of amazement for one and all.
Well-known for his discipline of bowling consistent lines and lengths, Hazlewood’s figures in his first six overs read 6-3-5-2 as the right-arm bowler didn’t provide any chance to the English batsmen to build some momentum.
Other than Roy, Hazlewood also dismissed England batsman Joe Root (1) after he edged a delivery to Australia wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey. It was due to the same reason that Australia captain Aaron Finch made Hazlewood bowl eight overs in his first spell.
Earlier, it was England captain Eoin Morgan who had won the toss and invited the visitors in to bat. Not getting off to the best of starts, Australia managed to post a competitive 294/9 in 50 overs on the back of a game-changing 126-run partnership between Mitchell Marsh (73) and Glenn Maxwell (77).
With bowling figures of 10-0-54-3, England fast bowler Mark Wood was the pick of their bowlers. While Jofra Archer also picked three wickets, the likes of Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes dismissed two and one Australian batsman respectively.
