WATCH: Gautam Gambhir Stops Kyle Mayers From Talking to Virat Kohli After Aggressive Handshake at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium

Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir held all-rounder Kyle Mayers‘ arm to stop him from having a discussion with former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli after the completion of a high-octane quarrelsome Indian Premier League 2023 match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium last night.

Although players of different teams generally tend to exchange words of wisdom after IPL matches, soaring tempers between Gambhir and Kohli didn’t leave any room for cricket-related discussions. Mayers, whose gestures hint at him talking about batting with Kohli, was taken to a side by a hostile Gambhir who shook opposition players’ hands with a lot of aggression following an 18-run loss at home.

Perhaps Gambhir didn’t want his player to exchange any sort of views with Kohli on a night when he had both avenged Gambhir’s “keep shut” gesture from last month and indulged in a brawl with Super Giants fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq.

For the unversed, Kohli and Naveen’s altercation had also involved veteran Lucknow spinner Amit Mishra. Kohli, who remained quite animated throughout the match, appeared annoyed since Naveen said something to him when players were shaking hands after the match.

A classic case of one thing leading to another resulted in scenes which didn’t set the best examples on the part of prominent cricketing personalities such as Gambhir and Kohli.

With millions of their fans watching them going at each other verbally a decade after their first such dispute, the 41 and 34-year olds respectively crossed a lot boundaries irrespective of who started or who said what.

A low-scoring contest bereft of cricket-related thrill will primarily be remembered for cricketers urging their mentor to not partake in a fight. Readers must note that an agitated Kohli was seen explaining his side of the story to LSG captain KL Rahul before a more calmer Kohli was spotted meeting the owner of the home team.
