The striker was subjected to Arteta’s fury at the weekend

Managing to even over shadow Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Tottenham at the weekend was Mikel Arteta’s decision to drop striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the encounter.

The Spaniard had alluded the decision to disciplinary issues. While he had refused to elaborate on the cause, news had emerged of Aubameyang being late for reporting to the club, a move which had massively irked Arteta.

A slew of reports ever since had gone onto state that there was a complete collapse of relations between Arteta and Aubameyang with Arteta said to be livid with Aubameyang who is said to be a habitual offender. Many had gone onto claim that Arteta was scouring for a new captain as he strived to punish Aubameyang by stripping him off the role.

However, Arteta was quick to pour cold water over all such reports. Taking ahead of his team’s round of 16 Europa League contest with Olympiacos on Wednesday, Arteta stressed that he had reconciled with his side’s captain.

“We talked. Everything has been resolved in a really positive way and we move forward,” Arteta said.

Elneny was quick to praise his side’s captain as well as he went onto say, ”Auba is one of the best players we have. And as a teammate out of the pitch he is a brilliant person. Auba is our captain and he always supports us outside of the pitch.”

Arsenal who carry a 3-1 lead into the second round showdown make a foray into this contest in the wake of a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Arsenal. However, Arteta refused to take things as a foregone conclusion.

“Absolutely not. From what I’ve seen from Olympiacos and the amount of games they’ve won in the final minutes it will be tough. They will try to put us under a lot of pressure so there’s still a lot to play,” the Arsenal bigwig said.
