"Do not know the real potential of Charles Leclerc with a top car"- Toto Wolff

“Do not know the real potential of Charles Leclerc with a top car”- Toto Wolff takes a possible dig at Ferrari with this recent statement.

There are only 20 spots in Formula 1 as of now, and the scarcity of spots directly tells the merit of the drivers, and in most cases, the disparity between the cars only separates all of them.

When asked about the best drivers in the grid, Toto Wolff took an indirect dig at Ferrari, while mentioning Charles Lecler in the conversation among other top drivers.

“You can only assess this if you let them compete with each other,” he said. “We’ve never seen Lewis versus Max or George versus Lewis,” said Wolff to Austrian broadcaster ORF.

“We also do not know the real potential of Charles Leclerc with a top car. There are too many variables involved, and therefore it is difficult to answer these kinds of questions with precision.”

Undermining Ferrari?

Ferrari is going through the most delicate times since the turn of this millennium, and for the first time since 2016, it failed to earn a win. Yet, in 2019, Ferrari had an impressive year, where Leclerc even bossed against Mercedes at Tifosi’s home race in Monza.

Though, one can dismiss this argument by saying that Wolff said it since it was Leclerc’s debut season with Ferrari. However, it was enough to know Leclerc’s calibre with a top team.

Ferrari aims to do better with Charles Leclerc.

While Ferrari has invested in youth by bringing in Carlos Sainz, the pair definitely shows a great prospect for the Italian outfit. This year, Ferarri has declared to secure P3 in constructors’ championship at least.

However, time will tell how 2021 fairs out for Ferrari, as they have already strike themselves out of this year’s title contention considering Mercedes and Red Bull’s might.
