"He always cheered me up"- Sebastian Vettel on how Lewis Hamilton elevated him during his rough summer of 2020

“He always cheered me up”- Sebastian Vettel on how Lewis Hamilton motivated him when the former got his relieving orders from Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel had a complicated year with Ferrari, as the German was well early in the season was told that he won’t remain with the team from 2021. Additionally, the 2020 season didn’t bring much to cherish for him with Ferrari.

Overall, Vettel had a rough summer, and he had little support in this tough time. Now, a few months later, Vettel reveals how his fiercest rival Lewis Hamilton helped him overcome this debacle.

The German racer asked after the last race in Abu Dhabi if there was a driver in that period who tried to cheer him up a bit. “Yes, Lewis called me just after the bad news in the spring.”

“We had a few more conversations or wrote to each other. He always cheered me up and motivated me to go on. I had several reasons to congratulate him on his great performance and Lewis would often have a reason to feel sorry for me [laughs].

“Because of Corona, we couldn’t have conversations in the paddock this season.” he further said.

A new start for Sebastian Vettel

Vettel was soon approached by Racing Point to team up with Lance Stroll for their new franchise for 2021- Aston Martin. With this, there is a sense of excitement, as Vettel for the first time in his career would be competing for a midtable team.

However, it will also mean that he might not be able to contest with Hamilton as intensely he used to do till 2019. A similar spectacle of 2020, where Vettel hardly ever managed to come at the top with the current car by Ferrari.

On the other hand, Hamilton looks strong to seal his 8th title, but his contract negotiations with Mercedes are still not solved.
