"I told him that he should look in his rear mirrors because I am coming"– Sebastian Vettel on Charles Leclerc after winning podium

“I told him that he should look in his rear mirrors because I am coming”– Sebastian Vettel predicted defeating Charles Leclerc on Saturday.

Charles Leclerc had a pole start for the Azerbaijan GP race, but he soon lost his advantage and dropped to P4 by the end. On the other hand, his former teammate Sebastian Vettel had one of the best races in a long while.

The German started the race from P11 but ended up being 2nd on the podium. But this was something Vettel already predicted on Saturday; he revealed while talking to the Sky Germany.

“I congratulated Charles Leclerc on his pole because he made such a great lap. I told him that he should look in his rear mirrors because I am coming. He smiled. He was there in parc ferme to congratulate me and I told him [see I told you]. Maybe I should text him more,” he said.

With this, Vettel got his first podium of the year and Aston Martin’s first, signalling the silent growth of the Silverstone-based team since Bahrain.

Charles Leclerc missed the podium by an inch.

The fans would have loved to see Leclerc and Vettel sharing a podium ever since they parted away this year. The Monegasque had a good chance to overtake Pierre Gasly after the race restart.

But his best friend exceptionally defended his position, and there weren’t laps left to allow Leclerc to have another shot at the podium, preventing an iconic image.

Nevertheless, Leclerc was the first one among the grid to embrace Vettel after his achievement. Meanwhile, Leclerc, though missed the podium, his P4 points are going to be crucial as Ferrari climbed over McLaren in the championship and now have a 2 point lead.
