It’s difficult to believe we are so close to the top teams

“It’s difficult to believe we are so close to the top teams”– Charles Leclerc, with his P4 start position for Sunday, is excited with Ferrari improvements.

Ferrari is on the road to recovery after a disastrous 2020 experience. Nobody expects them to make incredible performances, but a level of decent outputs is expected, which so far Ferrari is delivering.

Securing a P4 grid start for Sunday, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, before qualifying, told that he is delighted with the sudden improvement by Ferrari, and now he can contest against the top teams.

“It’s all track and temperature specific because we haven’t changed the car at all,” Leclerc said. “But the car feels a lot better in those conditions. The car feels great this weekend; even if we compare it to last year, it feels much better this weekend.”

“The grip is good, the balance is good. And I have quite a bit of confidence in the car. It feels better than last year; then we have to wait and see tomorrow whenever we are all pushing in qualifying,” Leclerc said.

“For now, it’s difficult to believe we are so close to the top teams. And I’m pretty sure they have a bit more to come tomorrow. So let’s wait and see.”

Carlos Sainz struggled

While the Monegasque secured an impressive P4 finish in qualifying, his teammate and immensely hyped Carlos Sainz failed to break even in the Q3. Fine margin against Lance Stroll gave him a P11 on Saturday.

Although the gap to team-mate Leclerc was more than three-tenths of a second. In the last Grand Prix, Sainz had a good debut but failed to repeat it in Imola.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard has plenty of time to compensate, as Ferrari’s bosses would be aware that Sainz is still settling in the setup.
