“The upgrade really has worked”– Lewis Hamilton believes that the recent upgrades have worked wonders for them in the last few weeks.

Mercedes are back on the top of the table and may further reclaim the title if they continue to steal points from their arch-rivals, Red Bull. Though, a few weeks ago, the Silver Arrows were struggling against Red Bull.

But the announced upgrades have apparently helped them to give better performances, at least that’s what is claimed by Lewis Hamilton after overtaking Max Verstappen in the drivers’ championship.

“It’s definitely been a hard slog for us,” Hamilton told media, including RacingNews365.com after the Hungarian Grand Prix. “The others, those guys with their update they had.”

“I think probably a combination of things, but they took an excellent step once we got to that midpoint, Monaco onwards. [It] was intense, he added.

“The upgrade really has worked, and then we’ve just been working on our procedures through the weekend and trying to extract more from the car, and I think now we’re a lot closer.”

“This weekend has been very strong, and definitely surprising to see how strong it is compared to them [Red Bull], so [I’m] proud of everyone back at the factory, who continued to not give up.”

Mercedes is learning from its mistakes.

This year, Mercedes have made some major blunders in race strategies, the recent most being their call to be the only one on the grid, while the rest of the cars went to change tyres.

Thus, Hamilton remained in his intermediaries tyres while the rest of the grid picked among the usual compound tyres. This forced Hamilton to pit his car in another lap and fall at the back of the grid, and from there on, it was a hustle to claim a podium position.

But Hamilton assures that Mercedes is learning from its mistake and improving from it, helping the whole Mercedes’ team not give up amidst intense competition from Red Bull.

“Even today, with the big mess-up, the team [are] still not giving up,” Hamilton said. “[We] keep pushing, and that’s what we do. “We never give up, we keep pushing, keep fighting, and I’m so honoured to be able to race for a team like this, and we learn from these mistakes.”

“Of course we wish it didn’t happen, but it’s not how you fall, it’s how you get back up.”
