Rafael Nadal has so far had a much better 2017 than he could have possibly dreamed about. His last two years were riddled with injuries and inconsistent form as many people wondered if we had already seen the best of the great Spaniard. But Nadal has bounced back in style this year as he continues his quest to win a historic tenth French Open title. In a recent interview, Francis Roig, Nadal’s coach said that Nadal and Federer both want the same things.

‘The truth is that Rafa changed much, but not only him, also Federer, who I would say is playing his best tennis ever. And Djokovic and Murray, who in the last years had won everything, dropped a little bit and Rafa increased his level, he won these two titles and entered in a positive Dynamic.’

Rafa was always excited, but when something doesn’t work, it simply doesn’t. Winning gives more tranquility and makes the wind go into the right direction. Now draws look easier… you know, when in the sport the Wind goes into the right direction, everything is easier.’

‘If you come back to be World No. 1 it’s because you won big titles, but the most important thing is that he sees himself competitive against the best players and to play and win as many Grand Slam titles as possible, which is his goal but also Roger and Nole’s.’
