As we come to the end of what has been another remarkable football season, teams are already planning for next year as they look to strengthen their squads over the summer. If reports are to be believed, it looks like one of the best players in the world is heading back home. So much so that Gareth Bale could halt Antoine Griezmann’s Atletico exit !
Bale has been a valuable asset for Real Madrid during his time in the Spanish capital. He has played a crucial role in most of the trophies that Real has won over the last few years. No one will forget his incredible solo goal which won them the Spanish Cup as well as his crucial goal in the Champions League final.
In Ronaldo’s absence, Bale was the driving force behind Real’s strong finish to last season, which culminated in another Champions League trophy. This year he has a chance to win his first La Liga title with Real Madrid and then go to his home country of Wales with the prospect of winning another Champions League trophy.
But in spite of all this, Bale may not be as indispensable as he once was for Real. The form that Isco and Asensio have shown over the last few weeks may indicate that Real seem to function better without the Welshman in the team.
This is what Spanish football expert, Graham Hunter had to say.
“I think Gareth Bale is mulling things over at the moment,” he said.
“Before you look at Griezmann and Manchester United there is a very real opportunity [with Bale]. If Gareth Bale decides to press the button and say to Real Madrid ‘I would like to go home again’ there is a very real possibility of that happening.”
“Griezmann is a much trickier subject because the transfer ban Atletico Madrid are suffering at the moment means they can’t buy a replacement and they are moving to a new stadium. It is vital to keep Griezmann.
“There is a possibility that Bale says ‘I am going to cash my chips in, it has been brilliant here, win in Cardiff [the Champions League final] and maybe Manchester United this summer.’ Maybe.”
Manchester United are definitely going to bring in at least ONE superstar in the summer, so it does make sense to look at Bale as a viable option. Bale is a Tottenham hero and has already conquered the Premier League which makes him an attractive proposition for United, while Griezmann will need time to adapt to a new league.
Either way, it looks like the Premier League will be welcoming a bonafide superstar this summer !
