Genshin Impact has recently unveiled a teaser for the upcoming Fontaine update, wherein, Aether, the traveler, is seen swimming underwater against a captivating new backdrop. This teaser hints at the introduction of a potential new game mechanism.
The highly anticipated Fontaine update is scheduled to arrive in version 4.0 of the game. Although official news is limited, exciting new features and developments can be anticipated by players leading up to its release.
Fontaine teaser and other details
At the end of the live stream of version 3.7, a short video of around fifteen seconds was shown in the form of a teaser for a possible upcoming update. According to the teaser, the camera dives into the underwater realm, capturing a mesmerizing scene of swaying seaweed and vibrant fish gracefully swimming through the depths.
The focus then shifts to the protagonist, Aether, elegantly propelling himself through the water, embarking on an enigmatic journey forward. The serene ambiance and mysterious surroundings create an aura of anticipation, hinting at the intriguing adventures awaiting players in the forthcoming Fontaine update.
Not much is known officially about the new nation, however, the livestream has revealed a new character from Fontaine, Charlotte, who is a reporter. You should note that Charlotte has been given the responsibility to report on the King of Invokations Grand Prix, which makes her a key participant in the main event. Subsequently, the character might be seen as playable in future updates though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Genshin Impact underwater gameplay and other possible additions
Aether diving under the water in the teaser has left a possibility of an underwater gameplay mode being available in the game in future updates. Moreover, this might go hand-in-hand with the fact that the upcoming region of Fontaine is the Hydro nation. Several other details can be spotted in the trailer with keen eyes.

For example, a few fishes can be seen floating with a glowing aura around them, which might mean that they can be interacted with. Towards the end of the video, the traveler is seen swimming towards a gate in the distance which might be a hint to a possible underwater location in Fontaine.
With that being said, amidst several unconfirmed rumors about Fontaine, the new teaser has left the community discussing the possibilities of the RPG expanding under the water.
