Despite initial controversy regarding progression and microtransactions, the game managed to stabilize and win back fans.

Gran Turismo 7 beats FIFA to win Best Sports/Racing game at The Game Awards 2022

Here are all the nominees that GT 7 was up against at TGA 2022:

Best Sports/Racing Game

  • F1 22 (Codemasters/EA Sports)
  • FIFA 23 (EA Vancouver/Romania/EA Sports)
  • NBA 2K23 (Visual Concepts/2K Sports)
  • Gran Turismo 7 (Polyphony Digital/Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • OlliOlli World (Roll 7/Private Division)

While GT 7 was nominated for another category, this went to God of War Ragnarok:

Best Audio Design

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (Infinity Ward/Activision)
  • Elden Ring (FromSoftware/Bandai Namco)
  • God of War Ragnarök (Sony Santa Monica/Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • Gran Turismo 7 (Polyphony/Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games/Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Gran Turismo 7 launched on March 4, 2022, and has grown to be one of PlayStation’s premier racing games. The simulation racing title made waves as one of the first few racing games to show off the PS5’s graphical capabilities. This comes as no surprise as the franchise has pushed Sony’s platforms to the limit since the ’90s. However, today’s win is a great indication that the series continues to impress and will ideally be there for fans for a long time to come.
