ICC T20 World Cup 2020: India and Pakistan to play warm-up match before showpiece event in Australia, say reports

ICC T20 World Cup 2020: The two arch-rivals might be seen playing against each other in a practice match in Australia next year.

With the next major ICC tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup slated to be played in Australia next year, all eyes are on the tournament for it will be the first of its nature down under.

In what will be the seventh edition of the tournament, it will provide a great opportunity to the hosts to lift their maiden T20 World Cup. As far as India are concerned, even they would be keen to undergo a winning campaign for they haven’t won the tournament since its inaugural edition in 2007.

While the qualifying round of the tournament will begin on October 18, the final will be played at the MCG on November 15. India will play their first match against South Africa on October 24 at the Perth Stadium.

After the qualifying round, 12 teams will play in two groups and will be followed by the semi-finals and the final. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan, who have played each other in numerous world events in the last decade or so won’t get to face each other, at least in the league stage.

However, if a report in The Times of India is to be believed, ICC (International Cricket Council) is planning to conduct a warm-up match between India and Pakistan to generate interest with respect to the tournament.

“Wonder who comes up with these brilliant ideas there? First, they went and brought out the schedule of the 2020 World T20 for almost two years in advance. And now, they want a warm-up game to create excitement,” a source was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

In the eight T20Is that India and Pakistan have played against each other, India have a formidable 7-1 record against their neighbouring country.
