India wrestling result: Bajrang Punia reaches semifinal; secures medal

TheSportsRush brings to you the India wrestling result from today’s events. Bajrang Punia has reached the semifinal and secured a medal.

Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia reached the semifinal of the 65 kg wrestling event as he beat Abdulqosim Fayziev of Tajikistan in the quarterfinal. The Indian star won 12-2 via technical superiority to reach the semifinal of the 65 kg freestyle wrestling event.

With this win, Bajrang Punia has secured another medal for India. The wrestler will play the semifinal against Batchuluun Batmagnai of Mongolia in the semifinal, who beat Kim Kuk Gwang of North Korea 4-3.

India’s day in the wrestling, however, has been largely disappointing as Sandeep Tomar and Sushil Kumar, India’s two big medal prospects, lost in their category. While Sushil Kumar lost in the qualification round, Tomar went down against Reza Atrinagharchi of Iran.

In the men’s 97 category, India’s Mausam Khatri will meet Magomed Ibragimov of Uzebkistan later today, while Pawan Kumar will meet Hassan Yazdanicharati in the quarterfinal of the 86 kg category.

Indian women will enter the ring tomorrow to compete for the gold medal as big names like Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik will be in action.

India’s wrestling line-up for women’s events tomorrow – Vinesh Phogat (50 kg), Pinki (53 kg), Pooja Dhanda (57 kg), Sakshi Malik (62 kg).

Sumit Malik will also be in action in the 125 kg event tomorrow.
