Roger Federer has seen a tremendous start this year. Nobody can deny that every fan across the planet was disappointed when they heard that he won’t be stepping on the clay this season.

But Ion Tiriac, the owner of Mutua Madrid Open have some opinion to share. He is not happy with the Swiss’ decision. He believes that Roger has the potential to play as much as possible and he should not disappoint his fans.

‘I expected to see Federer in Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome. Through his career he always did his job but now it’s different. He plays sometimes and we can’t count on him anymore. Federer is a great champion. He is good for tennis but it’s not positive for the Tour to play so less. In tennis there aren’t only Major events, but also nine Masters 1000s that lasts 12 weeks in total. 80% of the money comes just from these events,’ said Tiriac.

Tiriac is a Romanian businessman and former professional tennis and ice hockey player. He has been successful as both. He is also the man who decided that Madrid Open would be played on blue clay which would please the eyes of the audience, which by the way was a torrid decision. Unfortunately Federer cannot afford to take such risks and play on whims at this point of his career.
