While yesterday was a day to forget for Virat Kohli, with India succumbing to a series loss in South Africa(yet again), he must have woken up with a smile on his face, after having made it big at the ICC Awards(for performances in the calendar year 2017).

Virat Kohli won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the year award, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for being ICC Cricketer of the Year and was appointed as captain of the both the ODI and the the Test teams.

The Indian skipper scored 2203 runs in Test cricket(eight 100’s), 1818 ODI runs(seven 100’s) and 299 T20I runs in the calendar year of 2017.

Kohli has taken his long format game to the next level in the past year, scoring double hundreds for fun and leading India in a brilliant way in their long home season.

He was extremely pleased after receiving the award and left a nice video message for his fans, congratulating all the other winners as well.

Indians have won the ‘Cricketer of the year’ award twice in a row now, with Ravichandran Ashwin having won it the last year.

It means a lot to me to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year 2017 and also ODI Cricketer of the Year. I won that (ODI) back in 2012. This is the first time I am winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. This is a huge honour for me, probably the biggest award we have in world cricket.

“Two Indians getting back-to-back makes it more special. Last time it was Ash (Ashwin) and this time I am getting it. I a really really honoured. I want to thank ICC for recognising all the hard word we put in. Want to congratulate all the winners,” Kohli said.

Steve Smith won the Test Player of the year award for the second time in a row and was extremely ‘humbled’ for having received the award after a successful Ashes.

“It is a great honour to win the Test player of the year award. It is called Test crickte for a reason and I am very humbled to win that award. I have had a really good year, I think I scored six hundreds in the year (2017), more importantly led the team to Ashes victory. I love playing Test cricket,” said Steve Smith.

Yuzvendra Chahal won the T20I performance of the year for having bowled that 6/25 spell against England.

Rashid Khan won the Associate Cricketer of the year award.
