In the first match between Kings XI and Knight Riders in IPL 2019, Knight Riders had defeated Kings XI by 28 runs. Chasing KKR’s monumental total of 218/4 at Eden Gardens, KXIP could only manage 190/4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

In the two matches which Kings XI and Knight Riders played last year, both teams had registered victories in their away matches. While Kings XI Punjab chased down a 125-run target (revised) in the 12th over at Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders successfully defended a mammoth 246-run target at Indore.
