Man Utd News: Marcus Rashford hits back at Michael Owen over goalscoring comments

Michael Owen suggested that Marcus Rashford lacks obsession for goals like Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has hit back at Michael Owen’s comments.

The former Red Devils striker divulged that current United’s number 10 is not a natural goalscorer and lacks obsession for goals. The English International compared him with Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, who have been the best goalscorers over the last five seasons.

Following the transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, Marcus Rashford has been told to lead the line by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Since Martial and Rashford have fancy feet, they keep switching their positions and either one of them playing through the middle at the end. However, in the absence of the Frenchman, the Red Devils academy graduate played as a lone striker and struggled to find the back of the net against Southampton.

Rashford said: “He [Owen] can only go on what he sees. Whereas the people around me [know].

“Especially when I was younger, the reason why you started playing is because you see things that you like and for me, it was goals and watching exciting people doing exciting things with the ball.

“So, the important thing is what I know. I know what I want, what I want to become and what I will become if I keep my mind on it.

“If you watch training, then you’d see how it all works,” Rashford said. “I could use Harry Kane as an example. He’s one of the best finishers that I’ve played with and whenever we do finishing, in my head, it’s about being as close to him as possible.

“So if he scores six, you want to score six, if he scores seven, you want to score eight. Little things like that are the bits that people never see.”

Although Michael Owen made a claim about his goalscoring prowess, he praised Rashford’s overall game. The English International brings so much creativity to the table and can burst through the counter-attacks as well.

It has been a tough start for the Red Devils, who have plucked just five points from four games. Following the comprehensive victory over Chelsea in the opening weekend, United have failed to overcome Wolves, Crystal Palace, and Southampton. Despite strengthening the backline, the defensive line continue to concede goals in the presence of the new signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
