Manchester City Vs Chelsea: The Chelsea midfielder failed to make even a substitute appearance against City on Saturday
Given Mason Mount’s increasing stature as a player, the starlet’s absence from Chelsea’s playing 11 against Manchester City left the club’s ardent supporters stunned.
Not only did Mount fail to make the cut in the side’s playing 11 but ended up missing out entirely. It was an omission which was a glaring and stark absence with many sweating over Mount’s fitness.
However, Thomas Tuchel has gone onto provide a massive update regarding Mount’s availability. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s contest with Manchester City, the 47 year old German talked about the fitness of Chelsea’s squad.
Fixtures Take Their Toll On Mount
Chelsea who had previously taken on Real Madrid in the Champions League earlier this week were comprised of tired legs according to Tuchel. The hectic pile of fixtures is what lead to Mount failing to feature for the club.
“It [Real Madrid] was a huge effort, not only physically but mentally,” Tuchel said as he explained Mount’s absence.
“We had one day less to recover and travel to do. You could see in the FA Cup semi what a day less can do. We needed to make some changes to prove our trust in the full squad.”
Tuchel ended up handing a surprise start to Billy Gilmour in midfield in place of Mason Mount. Striker Timo Werner was also entrusted to spearhead the club’s attack alongside Christian Pulisic.
Mount’s absence is a massive loss to Chelsea with the Englishman netting for the club against Real Madrid earlier this week. The goal played a quiessential role in ensuring Chelsea made it to the summit clash as they defeated Real Madrid 2-0.
Meanwhile, City had their own changes to make as well with top goal scorer, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin de Bruyne who has the most assists both missing for the club. The table toppers are taking on Chelsea in the wake of being defeated 1-0 in the FA Cup by the same opponents.
