Sniffer is going to be the newest mob introduction in the next major Minecraft update. The update is named Trails and Tales and Sniffer will be a critical aspect of it next to Archeology and Cherry Blossom biomes.
The Sniffer alongside the Camel are two new mobs being introduced in the new 1.20 Update. The game will have lots of new features and Sniffer is one of the most interesting mobs that will integrate itself in the environment quite nicely.
Sniffers look quite similar to tortoises. They have a huge shell-like structure on their backs and a square-shaped yellow face with beady eyes. There are quite a few things you can use them for. However, if you want to have them as a mob in the game, follow along.

How to Find a Sniffer Egg in Minecraft
Finding a Sniffer in the game is easy if you know where to look. Breeding is not that hard of a task as well. However, there are certain prerequisites we can achieve to simplify that process. By the prerequisites, we mean collecting certain items that will aid in the hunt for the eggs.
First, we will cover where you can find these eggs. Then we will check out the things you should have when you head out to find them and then cover how to breed them.
Where to Find Them
The Sniffer is one of those mobs that do not spawn naturally. You will have to find their eggs and make them spawn. To find them, the best place to look for are the Warm Ocean Biomes. Here you can find all sorts of Trail Ruins as well if you like to explore.
In those Biomes, you will first need to use a Brush to unearth the egg and then wait for the Snifflet to hatch. For that, you will need more than just a Brush tool. Let us look at everything you should have before venturing into the Warm Ocean Biomes to find a Sniffer Egg.
Things You Should Have
The first thing we recommend you make without any delay is the Brush tool. It is going to not only help you find Sniffers, but also every loot trapped in suspicious sand and gravel. You can use the Brush tool on those blocks to uncover the treasures inside.
You need one copper ingot, a stick, and a feather to make the Brush. Look at this guide that simplifies the whole process. Now we know that the adventure is going to take us underwater, that is why, we will need potions, armor, and weapons. Here is a list and why you will need these items.
- Armor and Shield: To protect yourself from the Drowned in case they attack you when searching for the Egg.
- Night Vision Potion: It will be useful when traveling in these dark biomes. The potion lets you see better underwater.
- Water Breathing: You will be underwater for a long time. That is why, it is essential to have one of these. It will let you breathe for 3 to 8 minutes depending on the level.
How to Breed Them
Now, once you find a suspicious gravel block by venturing deep into the Warm Ocean Biomes, pull out your Brush tool. Hold the right-click button and your character will start brushing the blocks. The blocks do not refresh so you can see what item you can get just by brushing a little so you do not waste time.
You should keep brushing until you find two eggs you can use to hatch both Sniffers and breed them to make more. Once you find two Sniffer eggs, place them on any block and they will begin the process of hatching.
It takes 20 minutes for these things to hatch. However, you can speed up the process by placing the eggs on a moss block. You need to be within a 128-block radius of the eggs otherwise they won’t hatch. Once they do, let them find torch flower seeds.
Use the torchflower seeds they found to make them breed. Take the torchflower seeds and feed both sniffers, after a while you will see a Sniffer Egg. Repeat the process however many times as you want.
