NBA India Games 2019 Schedule, Matches And Viewing Details: All the information needed as India gets ready to entertain the first ever NBA matches on its land
The showpiece NBA becomes the latest global league to turn to India in a bid to expand its arms and welcome in a country which has over the past couple of years become a thriving marketplace for international sports. An ardent, avid, boisterous and rapturous spectator base paired with a flourishing and upcoming basketball setup in the country makes India the perfect country to outreach to, something the NBA has finally decided to do.
Slating two preseason fixtures in the country on Friday and Saturday between Indiana Pacers and Sacramento Kings, the move by the governing body is a larger part of its aspirations of leaving footprints on a country which loves the sport. Bereft of worldclass NBA action till now, Mumbai will finally get an opportunity its been yearning for way too long now with two myriad outfits laden to the brim with worldclass performers set to take the court with aplomb come Friday.
“Our inaugural NBA India Games will help further untap the enormous basketball potential in a country with a thriving sports culture and a growing, young and engaged population,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said while talking about the imminent matches. “We thank the Kings and Pacers organisations for participating in this historic event,” he added.
The matches were realised and brought into fruition with a momentous inclement of the Kings ownership with owner Vivek Ranadive and the Reliance Foundation intertwining with the NBA to hep realise a dream which could end up being a defining moment for the sport in the country. Along with these two matches, the NBA will also be organising activities to immerse supporters of the game in across the course of the week along with a junior basketball program with aspirations of picking up players from the grassroots levels.
The move is another attempt by the sports league to lend its unwavering support to India, a country it has recognised for its potential and massive pool of players who have an innate ability and penchant for the game. The NBA Academy in India was setup in May 2018 as a commitment by the governing council to further impact the sport in India and leave the league’s footprints across the country.
“We are proud to be the first global sports league to bring games of this scale to India. The NBA and basketball have never been more popular in India, and fans will get to enjoy world-class showcases for our sport between two exciting teams in the Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers,” said Colaco.
