“Golden State has internally discussed the idea of a trade for Damian Lillard”: Anthony Slater reveals that the Warriors could potentially trade for the Portland superstar
Anthony Slater reveals that the Golden State Warriors have “internally discussed the idea” of a trade for the Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard.
Over the last couple of years, the Golden State Warriors have become one of the best franchises in the league. The organisation reached the NBA Finals for five straight years from 2015 to 2019, winning three of the appearances.
However, the past two years, after Golden State have not been making it into the postseason, the Warriors are in desperate need of a rebuild this offseason. One big name which is supposedly available for trade is Portland superstar Damian Lillard. Several teams have been interested in this All-Star point guard, and frankly, who wouldn’t be?
Recently, Anthony Slater of “The Athletic” revealed that the Golden State Warriors have already “internally discussed” trade ideas for Dame Dolla. Slater further wrote:
“Would the Warriors get involved? Yes. They’d make a call and have already internally discussed the idea, as I’m sure most contenders have, considering the rising smoke out of Portland.”
“Their theoretical offer would be competitive. If the Blazers decided to trade Lillard, a complete rebuild seems like the wisest path and there aren’t many better rebuilding trade packages dangling out there right now than James Wiseman, the seventh and 14th pick in the upcoming draft, plus more future firsts, attached to Andrew Wiggins as salary match filler. The [Oklahoma City] Thunder and other teams may have a more appealing basket of picks, but why would they spend them on a star on the wrong side of 30?”

Even though these are just rumours, the simple thought of seeing Steph, Dame, Klay and Green on one team, is dangerous. If the Lillard trade does go down, GSW will instantly become the most deadly offensive team in the entire league. And no doubt will immediately become the favourites to win the 2022 title.
