Golden State Warriors News

With the Warriors getting a guaranteed top 5 pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Here are 3 prospects that the Golden State Warriors should avoid drafting in their team.

After a 15-50 season, the Golden State Warriors, are guaranteed to get a top 5 pick for the upcoming 2020 NBA draft. They are joint favorites with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves to get the number draft pick. With the Warriors not traveling for the restart, they have already begun preparations for next season.

Players Golden State Warriors should avoid in 2020 NBA Draft

1) Devin Vassell

Vassell(6’7), is a shooting guard that plays for Florida State Seminoles. He has drawn comparisons to Danny Green.

With Steph and Klay predicted to be fit and healthy for next season, the Warriors won’t need much on the backcourt. Moreover, with Damion Lee, Jordan Poole, and Ky Bowman providing support to Klay Thompson at shooting guard, the Warriors should avoid getting another player in that position, as he won’t get the desired minutes in and could hinder his development.

Vassell is projected to be an above-average player. And the Warriors would like to use their pick on a top prospect.

So, Vassell and the Warriors are a mismatch.

2) Onyeka Okongwu

Listed as a 6-foot-9 forward, Okongwu will likely slide into the NBA as the perfect small-ball center.

But with the Warriors having only one center on their mind, James Wiseman. Getting Okongwu wouldn’t fit the type of center Warriors have in mind.

Okongwu has drawn comparison to Bam Abedayo or Tristian Thompson.

Whereas, the Warriors are looking for someone like Rudy Gobert or Anthony Davis. A center that has more defensive potential and that is why James Wiseman is a better fit for the Warriors.

3) LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball is projected as the No.1 draft pick by many. But his father LaVar Ball has said that he should not move to the Warriors.

And that is true because, with Curry and Thompson in the backcourt, scoring points and creating plays, LaMelo would see his minutes drastically reduced.

LaMelo would like to be the one scoring points and running plays instead of just providing support of the bench. LaMelo’s scoring and assisting ability has been witnessed by everyone during his time playing in Australia.

And the Warriors would want to get someone they could develop into their next ball playing superstar. Which would require patience to stick around with Steph Curry still in his prime for the next 2-3 seasons or maybe even more. Ball might not stick around for that long, that’s why the Warriors are targeting Tyrese Haliburton.

With Curry and Klay fit on the backcourt. Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins playing forward and a potential top draft pick. The Warriors could potentially have one of the best teams next season.

The NBA Draft takes place on 16th October 2020.
