“I am the best shot blocking point guard of all time”: Rockets guard John Wall calls himself the GOAT rim protector at his position in NBA history
Houston Rockets star John Wall claims that he is the greatest shot blocking point guard to ever play in the NBA.
After 2 full years of not suiting up for an NBA game, John Wall finally hit the NBA hardwood as a member of the Houston Rockets this 2020-21 NBA season. His preseason play was great and he showed flashes of the old John Wall.
He made his regular season debut against the Sacramento Kings where he dropped 22 points and 9 assists in the Rockets win. Houston matched up against the Kings tonight as well where he led them to a 102-94 win while putting up 28 points on 50% shooting.
Wall is one of the most athletic and fastest point guards to ever grace the NBA. An aspect of his game that isn’t really talked about is his defense. In particular, his shot blocking ability – he was the Wizards’ best rim protector for many years during the Marcin Gortat era.
John Wall says he’s greatest shot-blocking point guard ever
John Wall’s athleticism helped him make a large chunk of highlights on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. The 6’4 point guard is known for his ability raise up and challenge shots on the perimeter and in transition.
Even after coming back from a brutal Achilles injury, Wall has still shown that he can get up to swat any shot he deems fit. When asked about his shot-blocking ability, Wall kept it short and sweet and said, “I feel like I’m the greatest shot-blocking point guard of all time.”

This question is most certainly up for debate; however, the only other point guard who is in the conversation would be Bulls legend, Ron Harper. It is safe to say that leaning towards Wall wouldn’t turn as many heads as he has made it known throughout his career that he will contest shots.
