“I like being the star of the Games”: Luka Doncic celebrates his grand Olympic debut, jokes about overtaking Novak Djokovic
Slovenian sensation Luka Doncic loves the spotlight and being the star wants to overtake Novak Djokovic as the best athlete
After yet another disappointing end to his NBA season, Luka Doncic came on a mission to the Olympics. For the second time in a row, Luka Doncic and his Dallas Mavericks got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. Incidentally, it has happened at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers both times. Despite Luka putting up marvelous numbers, the Mavericks just could not find enough firepower to outplay Paul George and the Clippers.
However, Luka does not want a repeat of the same in the Olympics. He made sure that Slovenia got off to a flyer start, as they took down semi-finalists Argentina 118-100 in Game 1. Luka almost made an Olympic record in his debut. The 22-year-old scored 48 points, just 7 shy of the Olympic record. He also recorded 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.
Luka Doncic wants more pictures than Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is perhaps one of the most successful tennis players, if not the top. With 85 career titles and 20 Grand Slams to his name, he sure earned his merit. After the Slovenian team took down Argentina, Luka took a minute to talk about the contest.
“Argentina is a very good team, it was difficult because they played very well in defense. But we prepared well for them and we played an extremely good game. We were solid in defense, we played well in the attack. The first Olympic match is behind us, the big victory and the feelings are very special”, Doncic said.
Although Doncic was about to make an Olympic record in his debut, the 22-year-old said he doesn’t care about records. “I don’t care about the records, we wanted a victory and that’s what we came for”.

The Slovenian sensation enjoys being a star and gleaming in the spotlight. He also is very competitive in nature. His goal, though not impossible, is not an easy one. Doncic wants more photos than Novak Djokovic. “I like being a star of the Games; I feel good to be one of the stars if I am. I’m taking a lot of photos, yes, there could be more, although the one with the most photos is Djokovic”.
Well, its still too early in Doncic’s career for achieving this feat. However, if he keeps up his game, he surely can achieve the same.
