'I only got so many miles in my legs': Derrick Rose reveals that he sought a trade from the Pistons to play on a playoff-bound team

While requesting for a trade, Derrick Rose and Pistons’ head coach Dwane Casey had an open conversation regarding Rose’s desires.

Earlier this past year, veteran point guard Derrick Rose had been traded from the Pistons to the Knicks. Dennis Smith Jr. and a 2023 second-round draft pick were sent in exchange for Rose.

Dwane Casey, in his recent appearance on the Sirius XM NBA Radio, stated what Rose and he spoke about. Casey stated:

“The last couple of days before the trade went down, we had a great conversation. He (Rose) was upfront and honest. ‘Coach, I’ve only got so many miles left in my legs. I just want to make sure I go to a situation where I may have a chance to make the playoffs this year. I know where you guys are—you’re rebuilding, you’re retooling.”

‘He’s going to be a big plus for New York’: Dwane Casey is happy for Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose has had a special relation with Knicks’ head coach Tom Thibodeau. Tom coached Rose in Chicago from 2010-2015, and then again coached him in Minnesota from 2017-2019. Rose referred to Tom and himself as an ‘odd couple’. Rose went on to talk about Thibodeau:

“The synergy we’ve got, I can’t explain it. We’re an odd couple, but for some reason, we understand the game. And the closest thing I probably can say is we’re students of the game. We watch the game. We try to understand the game more and try to get better if not every day, every week, every month, every couple of months, every year.”

Rose has had an immediate impact on the Knicks team since his arrival. He had a conversation with the rookies, telling them that he was there for them. He also had a great 14-point, 3-assists debut performance to almost help the Knicks beat the Heat.

Currently, the New York Knicks are in a much better position than they have been over the past few seasons. They have a decent 11-15 record to place them 10th in the Eastern Conference. Currently, Randle is leading the time with his All-Star level game. With his game and Rose’s mentoring, the Knicks have a chance of making the playoffs seat.
