“I Was ”My Guy’ First”: Kevin Durant Picks Joel Embiid as His MVP With Great Hesitation and Sadness
Kevin Durant is a top player in the modern NBA. The man known online as “@easymoneysniper” is known for his exemplary scoring ability. Be it at driving to the basket, attacking the rim, shooting the mid-range, or pulling up for a deep three. He is a natural.
And, with such natural ability, it’s no surprise that KD is constantly in the MVP conversation. The same goes for the 2022-2023 seasons as well. He was a favorite to win the award as the season kicked off, but a mid-season knee injury saw him fall out of contention.
The Slim Reaper ended things with a bang, averaging 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. Nevertheless, by the time the regular season came to an end, Durant was far removed from the MVP race. Especially considering the seasons the three favorites had. So, with his own agenda out of the way, who does he think deserves the award?
Kevin Durant hints that Joel Embiid is his favorite to win the 2022-2023 MVP award
With the regular season done and dusted with, all focus has shifted to the NBA Playoffs. However, it’s hard to forget that there are still some “awards” to be given out. And, the most important of these is the MVP award.
As things stand, the three front runners are Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid. All of them are equally worthy of the honor. But, there can only be one 2022-2023 MVP. So, who will it be?
Well, one of the former challengers, Kevin Durant has weighed in on the debate. Appearing on his podcast “The etcs w/KD”, the Slim Reaper, who once considered himself a candidate for the award has hinted that The Process, Joel Embiid is his favorite to be crowned MVP.
“Joel Embiid. Damn, I didn’t want to pick because I knew I’m going to get Giannis fans on my timeline and Jokic fans, I know for sure. Joel Embiid is my guy! I was my guy first. And then somebody fell into my knee two years in a row.”

Hinted is the important word here, seeing as KD conveniently bleeped out his answer. But, based on the experts in the comments section and some abysmal lip-reading, the 76ers center seems to be his answer.
KD isn’t the only person who believes Joel Embiid is the MVP
Kevin Durant may believe that Joel Embiid is the MVP, but are there others to back him up? Well, the answer is yes. As things stand, the odds seem to be heavily in favor of Embiid winning his first MVP award.
.@WindhorstESPN says the NBA MVP race is probably over after Joel Embiid’s performance last night:
“The Celtics had no answer for him. He absolutely shredded them. … It was a powerful statement at the moment when the ballots are due.” pic.twitter.com/ZF2uiqTpY8

It certainly will be a momentous occasion for Joel. One that he has been waiting on for quite some time. And, if he does win the award, there can be no denying that he deserves it.
