“If Zion Williamson Is Not in the MVP Conversation, Who Is?”: Kendrick Perkins Justifies 6ft 6” All-Star’s Conference-Leading Campaign Without Brandon Ingram
The New Orleans Pelicans are, presently, in a dream. Everyone’s dazed by how good they have been this season. They currently stand with 18 wins and nine losses at the top of the Western Conference. Only the Grizzlies have the same record in the West.
This success is impressive, and there is no denying the name leading this campaign. Zion Williamson is proving to be worth all the hype he had created before his season-ending injury. And fortunately, his dominance has not gone unnoticed.
ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins, who was also a former NBA player, has heaped praise on the 6ft 6″ forward. In a recent interview, Perkins defended Zion’s case for the league MVP.
Zion Williamson is dominating the league
Though it is still too early to speculate MVP of the season, Zion has definitely proven himself to be a legitimate contender. He is averaging 25 points and 7.3 rebounds, which by league standards isn’t that extraordinary. However, in the last seven games, the 22-year-old is averaging 30.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
As per Kendrick, Zion is making a clear case for himself. It’s not just that he performing so well. Even LeBron James and Anthony Davis are putting on great stats. What separates Zion from other performers is his ability to win.
Perkins highlighted how Zion is winning and winning without the second-best player in New Orleans. With Brandon Ingram out, the Pelicans are still able to maintain their stride and continue to win.
Of the 8 games Ingram has missed, the Pelicans have won 7. They just lost in their most recent matchup against the Utah Jazz but that is merely a small bump on their season.
The New Orleans Pelicans are headed to playoffs
Even with Zion absent last season, the Pelicans managed to reach the playoffs with Ingram’s evolution. This season, they are performing exceptionally well without Brandon.
Fortunately, the Pelicans won’t have to fight any longer without their 6ft 8″ forward. Brandon Ingram is expected to return by next week. That will allow the Pelicans to play at full capacity.
They are one of the best defensive teams with Zion and Ingram guarding the post and are blessed with an impressive offensive lineup. It will be impressive to see
